When you play conservative golf you are more likely to score at or below the average of your last 10 best golf scores. In my opinion, this strategy may be the difference between winning or loosing the tournament. Do it twice and you will definitely loose the tournament. If you do this just once in the tournament you could loose the tournament. Most of the time this only compounds the mistake and creates a disaster hole. Don't try to make an impossible shot in an effort to save par. Accept a bogey or even a double bogey as the best that you can do on that hole. This means that if you make a mistake on a hole don't turn that mistake into a disaster. The better player understands this phenomenon and adopts the following philosophy - Take What the Golf Course will Give You on any Hole. This is a good indication that most players put more pressure on themselves during tournaments. It is a fact that the average scores for golf tournaments are usually higher than a normal round of golf. But, If you just follow my suggestions you may just find yourself in the winners circle at the completion of your golf tournament. I know that I may have over-simplified this winning strategy. If you can post this score or better you have a good chance of winning the tournament. You should know what this score is before playing in the tournament. Try to play a round of golf equal to or better than your average score for your last 10 best rounds. If you as a player can turn in one of your better than average rounds of golf you stand a better than average chance to win the tournament. Mainly because your handicap is a mathematical formula that takes and averages your last 10 best scores. It is the fairest way get two players to a level playing field. The USGA handicap system allows players with different skill levels to be able to compete with each other. The Net score is your Real score minus your Handicap Index. You win because you have the lowest Net score.

Tournament scores are analyzed to see if you are playing substantially better in tournaments than at other times and might result in a reduction of your handicap.First of all there is no secret about how you win a handicap golf tournament. If you play in other tournaments, you can set that when posting. These scores are posted with the “T” flag set to indicate it was in a tournament. The NCGA will post all your scores from Junior Tour of Northern California tournaments and any other NCGA Tournament you play in.

There are many other rules about Equitable Stroke Control and partial rounds which can be read at the USGA’s Handicap FAQ. It will be combined with the next 9-hole score to make an 18-hole score. If you play 9 holes, you should post it as a 9-hole score. This means that if you play 18 holes, you should post the score. The Handicap Rules require that you post all acceptable scores.

When posting a score, make sure that you select the correct tees and that you have adjusted for Equitable Stroke Control. In order to have a valid index, you must have five (5) 18-hole scores posted on the update date.īefore you can post scores, you have to be a member of a golf club. This means that if you want to play in a tournament in May which has signups in April, you MUST have enough scores posted to create a valid index on April 1. Handicaps are updated on the first and fifteenth of each month by the USGA. In order to play in a Junior Tour of Northern California event, you need to have established a handicap index with an NCGA golf club before you attempt to register for a tournament.
